US FCC Updates Controlled List, Adds Chinese-Made Grid-Tied Inverters; Sector Stocks Diverge
The US Federal Communications Commission has updated its Covered List, adding foreign-made grid-tied power inverters. The new rule took effect immediately and applies only to new models not yet launched, while existing authorized products are not restricted for now. Sungrow Power Supply shares fell 4.93 percent, GoodWe and Chint Power edged lower, while Hoymiles and Deye shares inched up. The divergence stems from differences in each company's US business exposure. Industry experts note that the move is essentially a political decision aimed at gaining leverage in trade negotiations, but the US faces a massive shortfall in domestic inverter production capacity and will struggle to reduce reliance on Chinese products in the short term. Several leading companies have already begun planning overseas factories, using a global manufacturing footprint to address policy risks.
