Nikkei extends losses in morning trade as AI stocks slide, but strong earnings attract buyers
The Nikkei Stock Average extended its losses in the morning session on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, falling 564.37 points from the previous close to 66,678.36. Overnight declines in US equities and a pullback in AI and semiconductor stocks weighed on sentiment, leading to early selling. Rising crude oil prices amid escalating tensions in the Middle East also added pressure. On the other hand, buying emerged in stocks such as Bookoff Group Holdings and Sansan, which reported strong earnings, as well as Oriental Land, which drew attention on price hike expectations, preventing a broader market rout. The TOPIX ended the morning session down 0.12% at 4,002.62, with trading value on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market reaching 5.377413 trillion yen.
