Baytex Energy Targets Duvernay Growth and Buybacks After Eagle Ford Sale
Baytex Energy is refocusing on Canada after selling its Eagle Ford assets, simplifying operations and strengthening its balance sheet. The company ended 2025 with C$800 million in cash and plans to allocate about three-quarters of its 2026 net cash toward share buybacks. Duvernay is the main growth engine, with production expected to increase from roughly 8,000 BOE per day in 2025 to 25,000 BOE per day by 2030. Baytex raised its capital budget to C$625 million and targets approximately 7% average annual production growth. Heavy-oil assets will support cash flow while providing additional upside through Peavine waterflood pilots, Pekisko exploration and the potential Gemini thermal project, which is targeted for a final investment decision in late 2027.
