Dolby Laboratories, Inc. engages in the design and manufacture of audio, imaging, accessibility, and other hardware and software solutions for television, broadcast, and live entertainment industries in the United States and internationally. The company develops and licenses its audio technologies, such as AAC, HE-AAC, and extended HE-AAC, a digital audio codec solution; AVC, a digital video codec used in STBs, mobile devices, cameras, and broadcast television services and other products; and Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision include encoding technologies that artists use to create more compelling and immersive audio and video experiences. It also provides DD+, an advanced surround sound audio codec technology; Dolby AC-4, an audio codec that uses cutting edge compression; and HEVC, a digital video codec that compresses video. In addition, the company offers Dolby Cinemas, a premium large format cinemas that deliver a Dolby branded premium cinema offering with Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and a Dolby theater design; Dolby.io, a SaaS product of immersive, interactive, and social experiences with real-time engagement for live events, especially sports; and digital cinema servers, cinema processors, amplifiers, loudspeakers, and audio and imaging hardware and software products for the cinema, television, broadcast, communication, and entertainment industries. Further, it provides various services to support theatrical and television production for cinema exhibition, broadcast, and home entertainment. It serves film studios, content creators, post-production facilities, and broadcasters. It has a collaboration with Cinemo and SmashLabs to implement immersive, music-led gaming in passenger vehicles. Dolby Laboratories, Inc. was founded in 1965 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California.

Design Software Stocks Post Strong Q2 Earnings

Design software stocks delivered a strong second quarter, with the six companies tracked by this report collectively beating revenue consensus estimates by 1.4% and guiding next quarter's revenue 2.9% above expectations. Cadence Design Systems led the group with revenue of $1.58 billion, up 24.2% year over year, while Unity posted the biggest analyst estimate beat with revenue of $546.5 million, up 23.9%. Dolby Laboratories acquires FAU video compression portfolio with 250 patents

Dolby Laboratories has acquired a video-compression technology portfolio developed by Florida Atlantic University researchers in partnership with OP Solutions. The portfolio includes 683 intellectual property assets, among them 250 granted patents worldwide and 73 United States patents, with technology that contributed to the Versatile Video Coding standard known as H.266. Sixteen U.S. patents from the collaboration have been declared essential to the VVC standard and are licensed through the Access Advance VVC patent pool. The research was led by FAU professors Hari Kalva, Borko Furht, and Velibor Adzic, with Kalva and Furht named as inventors on all 250 granted patents. Dolby acquired the portfolio from OP Solutions, which held the patent rights following assignment from FAU.
