Crypto hacking losses top $1 billion in first half, with record number of attacks
According to a report by blockchain security firm Blockaid, crypto-related hacking losses exceeded $1 billion in the first half of 2026. The number of confirmed attacks reached a record high, already surpassing the total for all of 2025. Total losses were lower than the same period a year earlier, due to the roughly $1.5 billion Bybit hack in the first half of 2025. Attackers believed to be linked to North Korea accounted for the largest share of stolen funds, with the roughly $285 million attack on Drift and the roughly $292 million attack on KelpDAO attributed to this group. By chain, projects on Ethereum suffered around $332 million in losses, while projects on Solana lost around $326 million.
