Drax Group plc, together with its subsidiaries, engages in renewable power generation in the United Kingdom. The company operates through four segments: Pellet Production, Biomass Generation, Flexible Generation, and Energy Solutions. The company provides renewable, dispatchable power, and system support services. It is involved in production and sale of biomass pellets; generation and sale of electricity from biomass assets, pumped storage, run-of-river hydro, and OCGTs assets; and processing and sale of waste-derived pellets, as well as supply of electricity to non-domestic customers. The company owns and operates Drax Power Station located in Selby, North Yorkshire; Cruachan Power Station, a pumped storage hydro station, with an installed capacity of 440 megawatts (MW) located in Argyll and Bute; and Lanark and Galloway hydro-electric power stations with an installed capacity of 126 MW located in south-west Scotland. In addition, it owns and operates Daldowie fuel plant that processes sludge, a plant that converts it into dry low-odour fuel pellets. Further, the company manufactures and sells compressed wood pellets; and supplies renewable electricity. Drax Group plc was incorporated in 2005 and is based in Selby, the United Kingdom.

Fidra Energy reaches financial close on 500MW West Burton C battery storage project

Fidra Energy has reached financial close on its 500MW/1.1GWh West Burton C battery energy storage system project in Nottinghamshire, England. The European BESS developer, backed by EIG and the National Wealth Fund, secured £231 million in new loan facilities from a consortium of international lenders, adding to existing investment commitments from its backers. Total investment in the project is estimated at around £250 million. Construction is expected to begin later in 2026, with the facility becoming fully operational in 2028, and Sungrow will supply the batteries while H&MV Engineering serves as principal designer and contractor. Fidra has also signed a long-term offtake agreement with Drax Group for 50% of the project's capacity, and the project secured a 15-year UK capacity market award in March 2025.

Drax Appoints Dr. LeMia Jenkins as VP of Government and Regulatory Affairs for North America

Drax Group has appointed Dr. LeMia Jenkins as Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs for North America. She will lead the company's government and regulatory strategy across the United States and Canada, overseeing engagement with federal, state, provincial, and local policymakers and regulators. Dr. Jenkins brings more than 20 years of experience, most recently serving as Chief of Staff at the Mississippi Public Service Commission, and has held senior leadership roles at Pinterest, Walmart, and Caesars Entertainment. She holds a doctorate in education from the University of Mississippi.
