Entegris, Kulicke and Soffa, and Power Integrations rise on cooler inflation and IBM AI demand signal

Shares of Entegris, Kulicke and Soffa, and Power Integrations rose in afternoon trading after a cooler-than-expected June inflation report and a surprise capital expenditure warning from IBM validated AI hardware demand. June core CPI was flat month-over-month, reopening the door to a friendlier interest rate environment, while IBM CEO Arvind Krishna revealed that clients shifted enterprise budgets toward servers, storage, and memory to secure supply-constrained AI infrastructure. The soft inflation print lowers the discount rate, benefiting high-multiple semiconductor valuations, and IBM's warning acts as direct confirmation that AI infrastructure spending is not slowing down. Entegris jumped 3.2%, Kulicke and Soffa jumped 3.4%, and Power Integrations jumped 3.3%. The market is treating the IBM commentary as a strong fundamental signal ahead of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's earnings later in the week.

Entegris and Analog Devices Shares Surge as Semiconductor Sector Rebounds

Entegris and Analog Devices shares jumped 4.5% and 4.3% respectively as the semiconductor sector continued to rebound from the previous week's sharp selloff, buoyed by bullish Wall Street updates. Broadcom gained about 4.2% after disclosing multi-year agreements with Apple through 2031 to supply custom ASIC silicon. UBS raised its third-quarter DDR contract-pricing forecast to a 32% quarter-on-quarter increase from 17% and reiterated DRAM undersupply until at least the second quarter of 2028, while Citi added an upside catalyst watch on Micron and BofA reiterated a Buy rating with a $1,550 price target, arguing memory represents roughly 35% to 40% of cloud AI capital expenditure yet memory stocks trade at a sub-par 10 times forward price-to-earnings ratio. Goldman's trading desk flagged an oversold buy-the-dip setup after momentum factors fell 24% from their peak, the largest drawdown since the first quarter of 2023. The recovery was reinforced by SK Hynix's roughly $28 billion Nasdaq listing the previous week and Samsung's earnings later in the week, keeping the memory super-cycle story in the headlines.

SK Hynix HBM Slowdown Triggers Global Semiconductor Sell-Off

Semiconductor stocks tumbled globally after a report that South Korea's SK Hynix is slowing its high-bandwidth memory expansion, triggering a broad sell-off in the AI-chip complex. SK Hynix and Samsung each dropped more than 12% in Asia, dragging the KOSPI down about 10% and activating a 20-minute market-wide circuit breaker, while European names like ASML fell 5% and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index opened roughly 7% lower a day after a record close. The move reflects a margin story rather than a demand story, as SK Hynix is redirecting capacity into conventional DRAM where shortages have pushed operating margins more than 15 points above HBM's, according to Korean analysts. Among U.S. stocks, Applied Materials fell 8.3%, Teradyne fell 8.3%, and Entegris fell 9.4%, with memory names bearing the brunt as Micron dropped 11% while logic-heavy Nvidia fell only about 3.6%. Wedbush framed the drop as a buying opportunity with enterprise demand intact.

S&P 500 Futures Rise as Higher-for-Longer Rate Jitters Linger

US stock futures pointed higher Friday morning, with E-mini S&P 500 contracts up about 0.8% and Nasdaq-100 futures ahead roughly 1.5%, as investors weighed firm economic data against a tougher tone from global central banks. The Federal Reserve kept interest rates steady but signaled that several policymakers still see one more hike by the end of 2026, keeping borrowing costs relatively high. US retail sales rose 0.9% in May, suggesting consumers are still spending, while a sharp drop of 8.262 million barrels in crude oil inventories and a recent slide in oil prices highlighted a tug of war between demand and supply. Entegris, Penguin Solutions, and Skyworks Solutions Shares Plummet Amid Semiconductor Sell-Off

Shares of Entegris, Penguin Solutions, and Skyworks Solutions each fell 5.6% in afternoon trading as a broad semiconductor sell-off intensified. The decline followed a Bank of America fund manager survey showing 80% of respondents view semiconductors as the most crowded trade, the highest reading in the survey's history. Additional pressure came from May import prices rising 1.9% month-over-month, nearly double the 1.1% consensus, with an annual gain of 6.7%, the largest since August 2022. Markets also braced for Kevin Warsh's first meeting as Federal Reserve Chair, with some fund managers expecting a hawkish hold. Skyworks Solutions, which has had 19 moves greater than 5% over the past year, remains up 11.3% year-to-date at $71.64 per share but is still trading 14.1% below its 52-week high of $83.42 from May 2026.
