GEN Restaurant Group receives $100 million buyout offer for US restaurant operations

GEN Restaurant Group has received a non-binding letter of intent from an undisclosed multi-concept restaurant operator to acquire its US restaurant operations and related leases for $100 million. Under the proposed terms, GEN would retain full ownership of its consumer packaged goods and retail business, shifting its strategy to become a pure-play CPG company. The company stated the deal could strengthen its balance sheet while allowing it to focus on its rapidly growing packaged-goods segment, which requires less capital than restaurant expansion. GEN's board, along with financial and legal advisors, will evaluate the proposal to determine the best path for shareholders.

GEN Restaurant Group reports Q2 2026 revenue up 1.2% to $55.7 million

GEN Restaurant Group announced second quarter 2026 revenue rose 1.2% year-over-year to $55.7 million, while net loss widened to $4.6 million from $1.7 million a year earlier. The company also disclosed it received a non-binding letter of intent from a nationwide multi-concept restaurant operator to acquire its U.S. restaurant operations, which would leave GEN as a pure-play consumer packaged goods company retaining 100% of its CPG business. The CPG division, which grew revenue 341% sequentially and surpassed $2 million in June alone, secured purchase commitments from more than 100 Costco warehouses and new distribution agreements with United Natural Foods and C&S Wholesale Grocers. Comparable restaurant sales declined 9.3% in the quarter, and the company exited six underperforming locations. GEN estimates a forward 12-month CPG revenue run rate of $35 million to $40 million based on doors secured and pipeline.
