Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biotechnology company, focuses on the development and commercialization of therapies for gastrointestinal (GI) and rare diseases in the United States and internationally. It sells linaclotide, a guanylate cyclase type-C (GC-C) agonist for the treatment of adults suffering from irritable bowel syndrome with constipation or chronic idiopathic constipation, as well as for pediatric patients suffering from functional constipation under the LINZESS and CONSTELLA names. The company is also developing IW-3300, a GC-C agonist for the treatment of visceral pain conditions, including interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome and endometriosis; and Apraglutide, a synthetic peptide long-acting analog of glucagon-like peptide-2 for short bowel syndrome patients dependent on parenteral support, as well as for acute graft versus host disease. It has strategic partnerships with AbbVie Inc., AstraZeneca AB, and Astellas Pharma Inc. for the development and commercialization of linaclotide. The company was formerly known as Microbia, Inc. and changed its name to Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in April 2008. Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, Inc. was incorporated in 1998 and is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.

Ironwood Pharmaceuticals beats Q2 earnings estimates, raises 2026 revenue guidance

Ironwood Pharmaceuticals reported adjusted earnings of 31 cents per share for the second quarter of 2026, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 26 cents. Total revenues were $113 million, missing the estimate of $120 million but surging 32.6% year over year. The company raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to a range of $460 to $485 million, up from the prior $450 to $475 million, driven by higher demand for Linzess. U.S. sales of Linzess, recorded by partner AbbVie, are now expected to be between $1.15 billion and $1.20 billion, compared with the earlier projection of $1.13 billion to $1.18 billion. Ironwood also lifted its adjusted EBITDA outlook to more than $310 million from more than $300 million.

Ironwood Appoints Dr. Jeffrey Silber as Chief Medical Officer

Ironwood Pharmaceuticals has appointed Dr. Jeffrey Silber as Chief Medical Officer and Head of Research and Drug Development, succeeding Dr. Michael Shetzline who is retiring after a 30-year career. Dr. Silber will oversee Research and Drug Development, Regulatory Affairs, and Medical Affairs, reporting to CEO Tom McCourt, and officially joins on July 20, 2026. The company also announced that its confirmatory Phase 3 STARS-2 trial of Apraglutide in patients with short bowel syndrome with intestinal failure began in June and is now actively recruiting participants. Apraglutide is being advanced as a potential best-in-class therapy based on positive Phase 3 data. Ironwood's stock is currently trading at $4.08, down 3.09%.
