Liquidia Stock Drops 20% After Q2 Earnings Miss

Liquidia shares fell 20% week to date after the biotech's second-quarter earnings slightly missed analyst expectations. Revenue surged to nearly $171.7 million from $8.8 million a year earlier, driven almost entirely by sales of its pulmonary hypertension drug Yutrepia, which launched in June 2025. The company posted a GAAP net profit of $74.7 million, or $0.74 per share, versus a year-ago loss of $41.6 million, but that was just below the $0.76 per share consensus forecast. Liquidia also updated progress on L-606, its only remaining developmental program, which uses the same molecule as Yutrepia with a different formulation and delivery method. The stock had risen 155% year-to-date before earnings, leaving little room for anything short of a blowout quarter.

In March 2026, the company announced positive phase III data from the TETON-1 study of nebulized Tyvaso in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which exceeded the strong results previously reported in TETON-2, supporting a planned FDA supplemental application. The company also reported positive phase III data for its PAH candidate ralinepag from the ADVANCE OUTCOMES study and intends to submit a new drug application in the second half of 2026. United Therapeutics is advancing its organ manufacturing platform, including FDA clearance for a phase I study of its xenotransplantation heart candidate UHeart and premarket approval for the LungFX ex-vivo lung perfusion device. However, the company faces increasing competitive pressure on its core PAH franchise, with nebulized Tyvaso sales declining after loss of exclusivity and the launch of Liquidia's Yutrepia, which posted 44% sequential sales growth in the first quarter of 2026.

Liquidia Corporation's YUTREPIA launch drives rapid revenue growth and profitability

Liquidia Corporation has scaled annualized revenue from virtually zero to approximately $520 million within three full quarters of launching YUTREPIA for pulmonary hypertension, with quarterly revenue climbing from $8.8 million to $132.9 million. Roughly 75% of new patient starts are treatment-naive, indicating market expansion rather than just competitor displacement. EBITDA improved from substantial losses to approximately $61.9 million, with a 54% margin in the third quarter post-launch, and net income turned strongly positive while gross margins remained above 90%. Management guides toward approximately $1 billion of revenue in 2027, supported by a new manufacturing facility in 2026 that will triple capacity, and the company has an estimated $6 billion addressable market. Key risks include ongoing litigation from United Therapeutics and potential moderation of launch growth as penetration increases.
