Mercer targets $100M in profitability improvements by end of 2026, evaluates liquidity alternatives

Mercer International outlined a $100 million profitability improvement target by the end of 2026 as it evaluates strategic alternatives to enhance liquidity and strengthen its balance sheet. CEO Juan Bueno said the company's One Goal One Hundred program yielded about $30 million in 2025 and an additional $24 million in the first half of 2026, keeping it on track to reach the full target. The company is working with advisors and in discussions with holders of its 2028 and 2029 senior notes, while also adding going-concern disclosure to its financial statements. Second-quarter operating EBITDA was negative $21 million, down from the prior quarter, driven by higher German fiber costs and a $29 million non-cash inventory impairment charge. Mercer reported a consolidated net loss of $76 million, or $1.13 per share, and aggregate liquidity decreased by $37 million to about $192 million.
