MidCap Financial Investment Corporation (formerly Apollo Investment Corporation) is a closed-end, externally managed, non-diversified management investment company that has elected to be treated as a business development company under the Investment Company Act of 1940. It specializes in private equity investments in leveraged buyouts, acquisitions, recapitalizations, growth capital, refinancing, and private middle market companies. The fund provides direct equity capital, mezzanine, first lien secured loans, stretch senior loans, unitranche loans, second lien secured loans, senior secured loans, unsecured debt, subordinated debt, and loans, and may also invest in PIPES transactions. It may invest in thinly traded public companies, secondary market investments, structured products, cash equivalents, U.S. government securities, high-quality debt maturing in one year or less, high-yield bonds, distressed debt, non-U.S. investments, and securities of public companies that are not thinly traded, as well as collateralized loan obligations and credit-linked notes. The fund typically invests in construction and building materials, business services, plastics and rubber, advertising, capital equipment, education, cable television, chemicals, consumer products, direct marketing, energy, aerospace and defense, wholesale, telecommunications, financial services, hotels, gaming, leisure, restaurants, environmental industries, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, high tech industries, beverages, food and tobacco, manufacturing, media, printing and publishing, retail, automation, and aviation.
