Prediction market notional volume surges to $113.8 billion in Q2 2026

Prediction market notional volume reached $113.8 billion in the second quarter of 2026, roughly 1.8 times the $63.5 billion recorded for the full year 2025. Phil Monastyrsky, executive director of the Lituus Foundation, expressed the view that game-theory-based incentives could provide a more scalable dispute resolution framework for prediction markets than decentralized voting or centralized arbitrators. The foundation is rebuilding the outcome settlement layer Augur Lituus, evolving the early Augur principle of ensuring the cost of producing a false answer exceeds the profit. The mechanism employs an escalation game where stakes double during disputes, along with a fork economic design that ultimately splits the protocol, making it economically prohibitive for attackers to force an incorrect outcome. Monastyrsky stated that institutional investors require fixed rules, quantified security, and clear final settlement deadlines to build trust, and while litigation and regulation play a role in judging the conduct of market participants, the determination of event outcomes itself should be handled on a neutral foundation.
