SoundThinking, Inc. is a public safety technology company that provides data-driven solutions and strategic advisory services for law enforcement, security teams, and civic leadership. Its SafetySmart platform includes tools such as ShotSpotter, an outdoor gunshot detection and alerting system; CrimeTracer, a crime data and intelligence platform; CaseBuilder, an investigative case management system; ResourceRouter, which directs deployment of patrol and anti-violence resources; PlateRanger powered by Rekor, an automatic license plate recognition solution; and SafePointe, an AI-based weapons detection system. The company also offers ShotSpotter for Campus and ShotSpotter for Corporate, as well as perimeter-based sniper gunshot detection solutions. It sells through direct sales teams. Formerly known as ShotSpotter, Inc., it changed its name to SoundThinking, Inc. in April 2023. Founded in 1996, it is headquartered in Fremont, California.

SoundThinking cuts 2026 revenue guidance to $99M-$100M

SoundThinking revised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance down to between $99 million and $100 million, while also lowering its adjusted EBITDA margin target to 8% to 9%. CEO Ralph Clark attributed the shortfall to renewal timing and professional service project delays from Technologic and NYC Department of Corrections that push into 2027, as well as slower-than-expected SafePointe deployments and weaker ShotSpotter bookings. CFO Alan Stewart said the company now expects annual recurring revenue to increase from $95.4 million at the beginning of 2026 to over $100 million entering 2027, with no contribution assumed from a renewed Chicago ShotSpotter contract. Second-quarter revenue was $23.9 million, down from $25.9 million a year earlier, with a GAAP net loss of $4.8 million and adjusted EBITDA of $1.2 million. The company also reported approximately $36 million in deferred revenue and $93.1 million of contractually committed revenue at quarter-end.
