General Fusion achieves compressional plasma heating with LM26 magnetized target fusion machine
General Fusion has achieved significant progress toward its next major technical milestone with its large-scale Magnetized Target Fusion machine, Lawson Machine 26, demonstrating plasma heating to electron temperatures of approximately 8.4 million degrees Celsius or 0.72 keV through compression with a lithium liner. The results, submitted for peer review and publicly available, show a more than threefold increase in electron temperature during mechanical compression, along with tenfold increases in plasma density and poloidal magnetic field, plasma stability deep into compression, no significant lithium contamination, and an observed increase in neutron yield. The company believes these findings validate LM26's operating principles and lay the foundation for planned increases in starting plasma parameters to reach the 1 keV electron temperature milestone. General Fusion previously announced a business combination with Spring Valley Acquisition Corp. III, with a shareholder vote scheduled for July 6, 2026, and the combined company expected to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker GFUZ.
