Americans’ retirement ‘magic number’ rises 15% to $1.46 million
Americans now believe they need $1.46 million to retire comfortably, a 15% jump from $1.26 million a year ago, according to Northwestern Mutual’s 2026 Planning & Progress Study. The figure matches the 2024 record high, while a separate BlackRock survey of 1,000 registered voters pegged the target at $2.1 million.
