Intercontinental Exchange Incインターコンチネンタル取引所は、世界の砂糖市場における建玉が2026年8月14日に230万枚超と過去最高を記録したと発表した。前年比43％増で、2010年2月に記録した従来の最高を上回った。この記録は、粗糖の世界的指標であるICE砂糖11号が建玉220万枚、精製糖の指標であるICE白糖が建玉18万8000枚と、いずれも過去最高を更新したことによる。ICEのソフト商品担当シニアディレクター、マシュー・ライアン氏は、この急増の背景として、需給バランスの変化、2027年1月まで続く強いエルニーニョ予報、主要生産地域をめぐる不確実性を挙げた。ICEの広範な農産物複合全体の建玉は前年比46％増で、カカオが65％増、綿花が76％増、キャノーラが68％増、コーヒーが8％増となっている。一方、同複合全体の1日平均出来高は年初来で28％増加している。
