Freddie Mac米商務省国勢調査局が17日発表した8月の住宅着工件数（季節調整済み）は、住宅建設の大部分を占める一戸建てが年率換算で前月比7.6％増の91万8000戸となり、7月の3年半超ぶり低水準から増加に転じた。前年同月比では5.2％増加した。一方、一戸建て住宅の建設許可件数は前月比1.8％減の87万8000戸で、前年同月比では1.3％増加した。変動の大きい5戸以上の集合住宅着工件数は22.5％減の34万4000戸、前年同月比では15.5％減少した。全体の住宅着工件数は2.6％減の127万5000戸、前年同月比では1.2％減となった。集合住宅の建設許可件数は3.1％減の46万7000戸、全体の住宅建設許可件数は2.7％減の139万4000戸で、前年同月比では3.5％増加した。中東での紛争により原油価格が1バレル＝100ドルを突破し米長期国債利回りが上昇する中、住宅ローン金利は急騰しており、住宅金融公社フレディマックのデータによると、30年固定住宅ローンの週平均金利は先週6.76％に上昇し1年超ぶりの高水準を付けた。
