Booking Holdings IncAgoda, a Booking Holdings subsidiary, reports surge in accommodation searches for Japanese fireworks festivals, indicating increased demand for its platform.

Agoda has revealed a sharp rise in travel interest for Japan's summer 2026 fireworks season, with accommodation searches for Nagaoka City during the Nagaoka Festival Grand Fireworks surging 50 times compared to the pre-event period. The data, which compares searches made 90 to 60 days before each festival with those for check-ins on the day before and the day of the event, also showed a sevenfold increase for the Lake Biwa Great Fireworks Festival in Otsu City, nearly 3.5 times for both the Numazu Summer Festival and Kano River Fireworks Festival in Numazu City and the Kanmon Straits Fireworks Festival spanning Kitakyushu and Shimonoseki, and more than three times for the Matsue Suigosai Fireworks Festival in Matsue City. Agoda's findings indicate growing domestic and international demand for 'fireworks travel' that combines fireworks viewing with local sightseeing, dining, and overnight stays. Senior Country Director Tadashi Ikai noted that the search increases for regional cities like Nagaoka, Matsue, and Numazu reflect a broader interest in discovering the unique appeal of local destinations.
