Akebia Therapeutics has strengthened the intellectual property protection for its flagship therapy Vafseo, receiving a new patent listing in the FDA's Orange Book and notification of eligibility for a five-year extension of a composition of matter patent. The additions bring the company's Orange Book-listed patents covering Vafseo to 14, with protection now extending through 2036. The company reported first-quarter 2026 Vafseo net product revenue of $15.8 million, with patient numbers up approximately 60% from the prior quarter and around 1,025 prescribers, a 28% increase from Q4 2025. Total first-quarter revenue was $53.5 million, compared with $57.3 million in the same period last year, and cash resources stood at approximately $162.6 million as of March 31, 2026.
