Amazon.com IncAWS could become trillion-dollar business; raised capex to $220B, strong revenue and operating income growth.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said during the company's earnings call that Amazon Web Services could very possibly become a trillion-dollar annual revenue business in time. The company raised its 2026 capital expenditure budget to $220 billion, up from a previously stated $200 billion, to build out new data centers and bring more AI capacity online. Jassy explained that data centers have useful lives of 30 years or more and can cycle through five or six generations of servers, improving unit economics after the first generation. He noted that even with the increased spending, Amazon still does not expect to have enough capacity to satisfy all AI demand in 2026 and anticipates the same bottleneck will persist into 2027. The heavy investment has pressured free cash flow, which swung to an outflow of $7.6 billion in the trailing 12 months, even as AWS revenue rose 37% to $42.2 billion and operating income jumped 64% to $16.6 billion.
