Amazon is developing its own custom chips for key consumer devices like Echo and Fire TV, the company's head of devices and services Panos Panay told CNBC. Panay said Amazon makes end-to-end silicon for devices including the Echo Show 8, Echo Show 11, and Fire TV, and in October unveiled the AZ3 and AZ3 Pro chips designed to run AI models on-device rather than in the cloud. He noted that the company still uses chips from suppliers like Qualcomm. Panay also hinted at a roadmap of on-the-go devices that people carry, collect data, and talk to, but said anyone claiming to know the future of AI devices should be met with skepticism.
