Arianespace, the operator of Europe's main rocket Ariane 6, announced on the 9th that Amazon's satellite communications service, Kuiper, has ordered six additional launches on the Ariane 6. With this contract, Kuiper's total number of launches ordered from Arianespace will reach 24 by 2031. The additional launches will use the high-capacity Ariane 64 variant and will begin in 2029. French President Macron welcomed the contract at the opening ceremony of the space summit being held in Paris. This order is a milestone for Ariane 6, which has faced development delays, and could lead to increased production of the rocket. Amazon aims to compete with SpaceX's Starlink by providing global broadband services via thousands of low-Earth orbit satellites.
