Apple Inc.Apple unveiled its first foldable iPhone Duo, a new product launch with projected ~6M units and ~25% foldable market share.

Apple held a new product launch event on the 9th in Cupertino, California, unveiling its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo. In the United States, it starts at $1,999, with the highest-capacity model priced at $3,199. New Chief Executive Officer John Ternus said the large display, which offers the natural and intuitive feel of an iPad, opens up new possibilities, and he emphasized a future in which the iPhone Duo serves as a personal artificial intelligence hub for each user. Carolina Milanesi, an analyst at research firm Creative Strategies, noted that Apple usually does not clearly identify a target buyer group, but this time it appeared to deliberately avoid doing so. Neil Shah, vice president at Counterpoint Research, predicted that about 6 million units could be sold by the end of the year, which alone would translate into roughly a 25 percent share of the global foldable smartphone market. According to research firm IDC, foldable phones are expected to account for less than 3 percent of the global smartphone market in 2026, while research firm Omdia forecasts foldable smartphone shipments of 22.3 million units in 2026.
