Samsung Electronics Co LtdWorries that the AI rally has run its course hit chip titans, with Samsung falling around 10%.
Most Asian stocks sank on Thursday as tech firms came under renewed pressure from worries over the AI boom, with Seoul's Kospi diving more than seven percent. Chip titans SK hynix and Samsung each gave up around 10 percent amid growing anxiety that the AI rally has run its course. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 fell 2.8 percent and Taipei also suffered heavy selling, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index bucked the trend, climbing 1.3 percent. The losses came despite a second day of gains on Wall Street, where data showing US producer prices slipped 0.3 percent on-month in June eased bets on a near-term Federal Reserve rate hike. Oil prices rose further, with West Texas Intermediate up 0.6 percent at $80.11 a barrel and Brent North Sea Crude up 0.5 percent at $85.34 a barrel, as the US and Iran continued to trade strikes.
