Bayer gains full rights to a first-in-class Phase II drug for glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, strengthening its pipeline.

Bayer has completed its acquisition of Perfuse Therapeutics, gaining full rights to the first-in-class sustained-release small molecule endothelin receptor antagonist PER-001 intravitreal implant, currently in Phase II clinical development for glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. The deal involved an upfront payment of USD 300 million and carries a total potential value of up to USD 2.45 billion, including additional success-based milestone payments. Perfuse Therapeutics will now be fully integrated into Bayer, strengthening its pharmaceutical pipeline and ophthalmology expertise.
