Summary · why it matters

BNP Paribas and Google Cloud announced a new five-year partnership to expand the bank's access to Google Cloud's AI-optimized infrastructure and advanced AI capabilities, including Gemini Enterprise and Gemini models. The deal will support BNP Paribas' broader deployment of agentic AI and strengthen its existing multi-cloud and multi-model approach within its established security and data governance framework. Initial use cases begin with BNP Paribas Corporate & Institutional Banking, where Gemini models will be integrated into LLM@CIB, the division's internal generative AI assistant currently available to more than 65,000 employees, and where AI agents are planned for targeted workflows including the preparation of corporate credit memos, with further applications across sales, trading, research and structuring activities. Google Cloud and Gemini technologies have already been deployed at Nickel, BNP Paribas' payment account business within the Commercial, Personal Banking & Services division, where Gemini serves as the foundational model for Nickel Assist, helping 200 customer advisers answer customer requests based on Nickel's procedures and operating guidelines. Marc Camus, Group Chief Information Officer at BNP Paribas, said the partnership expands the options available to the bank's businesses, while Thomas Kurian, CEO at Google Cloud, said BNP Paribas is combining its banking leadership with Google Cloud's secure infrastructure and Gemini Enterprise to deploy intelligent agents across the bank.

Red Hat and Microsoft's Azure Government OpenShift Platform Wins DoD IL5 Certification

Microsoft Azure Red Hat OpenShift for Microsoft Azure Government has attained Department of Defense Impact Level 5 certification, Red Hat announced. The IL5 classification defines the highest level of security controls required for sensitive, mission-critical information and systems in cloud environments, covering Higher sensitivity Controlled Unclassified Information, Unclassified National Security Systems, and mission-critical information. The certification follows the platform's IL4 certification in July 2024 and adds to its existing FedRAMP High Authorization, ITAR, DFARS, IRS 1075, and CJIS credentials. Launched in 2023, the co-developed and jointly-operated turnkey application platform lets U.S. government agencies build, deploy, and run containerized applications at scale while meeting security and compliance requirements for highly-sensitive workloads. Chris Smith, vice president of North American Government Sales at Red Hat, said the service lets agencies accelerate cloud-native deployment without compromising lifecycle-wide security, while Leigh Madden, vice president of National Security at Microsoft, called the certification a significant milestone for mission-critical government workloads.

Oracle Issues Force Majeure Notice on New Mexico Stargate Data Center

Oracle has sent a force majeure notice to the developer of Project Jupiter, a Stargate data center campus in New Mexico, Bloomberg first reported Thursday. The notice would allow Oracle to delay payments should the facility miss its 2028 target to come online, though Oracle is not seeking to exit as the campus's main tenant. Blue Owl Capital, whose unit received the notice, said the notice does not change the financial commitments to the multi-year project. Oracle said Project Jupiter remains on its planned schedule and that it is fully committed to New Mexico. The campus, designed to handle 2.45 gigawatts, is meant to run on gas-powered fuel cells from Bloom Energy, and an Energy Transfer pipeline intended to deliver gas to the site has been delayed nearly six months, to Feb. 1, 2027, after regulators repeatedly denied permits. Project Jupiter is one of the flagship sites of Stargate, the AI infrastructure initiative Oracle, OpenAI and SoftBank announced with President Donald Trump early in his second term.

Nebius Shares Jump 8% as BNP Paribas Exane Lifts Target to $399

Nebius Group shares climbed about 8% Thursday after BNP Paribas Exane upgraded the AI infrastructure provider to Outperform from Neutral and raised its price target to $399 from $260. Exane BNP Paribas analyst Stefan Slowinski lifted the target on Thursday, according to TipRanks data, while other analysts' recent targets span from $84 to $410. The upgrade comes as Nebius prepares another round of pricing changes for its AI cloud services: starting Oct. 1, prices for selected Nvidia GPU instances are set to increase by roughly 17% to 21%, and rates for some AMD EPYC Genoa CPU services are expected to rise about 25%, following another price increase earlier this year. The pricing moves come amid continued demand for computing capacity used to train and run AI models, and Nebius has also signed several large customer agreements while its AI cloud business posted rapid growth in the latest quarter.
