The UK, European Union, Australia, and the state of California are all set to push forward new crypto regulations this week, with several acting under very tight deadlines. The UK is softening its stablecoin rules, cutting the proposed capital charge from 2% to 1% to attract firms, though final rules are not expected until 2027. The EU's MiCA transitional period ends July 1, requiring unlicensed crypto firms to wind down, potentially affecting 10 million users as only about 200 of 3,000 applicants gain clearance. Australia's crypto travel rule also starts July 1, mandating verified identity on all exchange transfers with no minimum amount. Meanwhile, California is advancing its own state-level crypto regulatory regime, similar to New York's BitLicense, as federal clarity remains pending.
