Coinbase Global IncCoinbase obtained a UK investment services license, enabling derivatives and equity trading expansion.

Coinbase announced on July 7 that it has obtained an investment services license in the UK. This authorization enables the company to offer derivatives trading, including perpetual futures based on crypto assets, equities, and commodities, to institutional investors and advanced traders, while also introducing equity trading for retail investors. The license was granted to its UK entity alongside an e-money license and crypto asset registration. Coinbase described this as its largest product expansion since entering the UK market and a major step toward becoming a full-service exchange. According to FCA research, around 7 million adults in the UK already hold crypto assets, and a quarter of those who do not are likely to consider entering the market once regulations become clearer. The license also comes ahead of new crypto regulations set to take effect in October 2027. The ban on crypto derivatives for retail investors remains in place, meaning this license does not allow retail investors to trade derivatives.
