Coinbase Global IncCoinbase launches token-backed mortgage product with Better Mortgage, driving shares up 5%.
Coinbase shares rose 5.1% in afternoon trading after the company and Better Mortgage launched a nationwide token-backed mortgage product, allowing borrowers to pledge bitcoin or USDC as collateral for a cash down payment without selling the tokens. The stock later cooled to $190.16, up 4.5%, as bitcoin's rally above $78,000 added momentum. The move also reflects growing regulatory optimism, with Senate Banking Chair Tim Scott saying the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act has a "really good shot" in September, ahead of a Sept. 15 cloture vote. Coinbase remains down 19.6% year-to-date and trades 50.9% below its 52-week high of $387.27.
