Amazon's Q2 earnings beat and strong cloud growth drove shares up 15%.

US stocks closed higher on Friday, sending the Dow to a fourth consecutive monthly gain, supported by Amazon shares which surged 15% after second-quarter earnings beat expectations and its cloud business posted strong growth. The S&P 500 rose 0.70% and the Nasdaq Composite added 1.00%. West Texas Intermediate crude oil climbed about 1.3% to 84.67 dollars a barrel after Iran claimed it attacked an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, stoking supply concerns. Gold fell 1.8% to 4,027.75 dollars an ounce, pressured by a stronger dollar, though it was still on track for its first positive month in five for July.
