Microsoft shares soared more than 15%, adding roughly 450 billion dollars in market value — the largest single-day increase ever for a US-listed company — after forecasting quarterly revenue and cloud business growth above expectations, while reporting capital expenditures lower than analysts had estimated. Semiconductor stocks rebounded in sympathy, with the PHLX Semiconductor Index jumping 8.2%. Micron Technology rose 18%, Sandisk surged 26%, and Advanced Micro Devices gained 13%. Meta Platforms shares declined after second-quarter free cash flow fell 91% due to AI investment costs. Meanwhile, the US economy grew 1.5% in the second quarter, below the 2.1% forecast.
