Eli Lilly and CompanyCFO highlights treating ~10% of US obesity population and strong Mounjaro growth, indicating robust demand for GLP-1 drugs.
Eli Lilly CFO Lucas Montarce said the company is addressing roughly 10% of the obesity patient population in the US with its GLP-1 drugs, while outside the US it has served only 2% of 900 million potential patients. Speaking after second-quarter earnings, Montarce highlighted 48% growth and nearly $10 billion in quarterly revenue for Mounjaro. He noted that the oral obesity drug Fundao, which generated $98 million in revenue, is still in early days with full commercial efforts only 45 days underway, yet one in four new prescriptions is for Fundao and 80% of those patients are new to the GLP-1 class. Montarce emphasized that orals are expanding the class rather than converting injectable users, with injectables like Zepbound continuing strong growth.
