Space Exploration Technologies Corp. Class A Common StockSpaceX completed the largest IPO in history at a $1.8 trillion valuation, giving it public stock for potential merger currency.
Elon Musk has exercised his entire 2018 compensation award of about 304 million Tesla options, raising his voting power in the electric-car maker to nearly 20%. The move comes just days after SpaceX completed the largest initial public offering in history at a valuation near $1.8 trillion, giving it public stock that could be used as currency in a potential stock-for-stock merger. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives puts the odds of a Tesla-SpaceX combination within a year at about 80%, though prediction markets are more cautious. Musk has previously said he wants roughly 25% voting control at Tesla to lead its push into artificial intelligence and robotics, areas that could overlap with SpaceX, which absorbed his xAI startup and is building a chip plant alongside Tesla in Austin. Tesla’s core business remains under pressure, with first-quarter net income of $477 million against a market capitalization of about $1.5 trillion, leaving the stock trading at roughly 370 times earnings.
