Escalating Middle East tensions are also pressuring markets after Yemen's Houthis claimed an attack on two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, and Iran's foreign minister vowed an "eye for an eye" defense as U.S. strikes continued for a twelfth night. WTI crude rose toward $89 a barrel and Brent crude extended gains to above $96 a barrel. Overnight, the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.6 percent, the S&P 500 slipped 0.1 percent, and the Dow finished marginally lower, while European markets had closed higher on Wednesday with the pan-European STOXX 600 up 0.6 percent.
