SK Hynix IncSK Hynix is a named anchor holding of the new KCHP Korea Semiconductor ETF, creating incremental fund demand for its shares.
Exchange Traded Concepts and Kiwoom Securities (USA) Inc. have launched the KICK Korea Semiconductor Index ETF, trading on NYSE Arca under the ticker KCHP, as the first fund in the KICK ETFs series. The fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of an index composed of 20 semiconductor companies listed on the Korea Exchange, spanning memory, foundry, equipment, materials, packaging and design, and is anchored by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. U.S. investors can buy and sell shares through a standard brokerage account without opening a foreign account or trading directly on the Korea Exchange, though the fund's underlying holdings are denominated in Korean won, so returns are also affected by changes in the won-dollar exchange rate. The Index uses a modified market-capitalization weighting methodology that limits how much of the portfolio any single constituent can represent, with no individual security weighted more than 20% of the Index and the sum of constituents at 4.5% weight or greater capped at 45%. Under normal circumstances, the fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in securities comprising the Akros Korea Semiconductor Index, whose eligible components are common stocks in the Korean semiconductor industry included in the Korea Composite Stock Price Index and KOSDAQ with a minimum market capitalization of at least $200 million USD and a three-month average daily traded value of at least $1 million USD.
