Goldman Sachs Group IncGoldman Sachs bans employees from prediction market bets, signaling a restrictive policy change.
Goldman Sachs has barred its employees from wagering on prediction market contracts tied to companies, elections, financial markets, and the economy, according to Bloomberg. The policy update, which still permits sports and entertainment bets, warns that repeat violations can lead to termination and the clawback of gains over $200. The move comes as prediction market trading volume surged from about $16 billion in 2024 to a projected $240 billion this year, with platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket attracting billions in investment and weekly volume. While JPMorgan Chase has only advised staff to be cautious and CEO Jamie Dimon has floated the possibility of offering similar products to clients, Goldman's ban signals a sharp retreat from a market its own CEO called 'super interesting' just months ago. Other firms, including Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Point72, and Balyasny, have also imposed limits or outright bans on such trades.
