Google, PTT, Gulf, and the Ministry of Energy jointly discussed driving Thailand to embrace the wave of AI and Data Center investment. Mr. Karan Bajwa, Google's Regional Director for Asia Pacific, stated that Thailand is becoming an attractive destination for data center investment, with Google planning to invest $1 billion in Thailand and expecting to spend around $1.0–2.0 billion on AI infrastructure globally this year. Meanwhile, Dr. Kongkrapan Intarajang, CEO of PTT, emphasized the role of ensuring energy security and advancing CCS investment. Dr. Prasert Sinsukprasert, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, discussed the PDP 2026 plan, which will open for public consultation next week, expecting new power generation capacity of at least 120,000 megawatts, with over 65% from renewable energy. The plan also includes introducing SMRs of 300 megawatts within 10 years and targeting electricity tariffs not exceeding 4 baht per unit. Mr. Samit Payomyong from Gulf stated that the company has 25 megawatts of data centers in operation and nearly 100 megawatts under construction, while supporting the PDP 2026 plan.
