Microsoft CorporationRecord market cap gain after earnings beat and strong Azure growth
Microsoft added nearly $450 billion in market value on Thursday, the largest single-day gain for any U.S. company ever, after its earnings convinced investors its AI spending is starting to pay off. The stock surged as much as 16%, lifting Microsoft's market cap to $3.35 trillion and beating Nvidia's previous record one-day gain of $441 billion. Revenue rose 18% to $90.01 billion, beating the $87.62 billion analysts expected, and adjusted earnings hit $4.74 a share versus $4.24 expected. Azure growth shot up to 43%, its best pace in years, and Microsoft 365 Copilot passed 30 million paid seats. In contrast, Meta Platforms fell for an 11th straight day, its longest losing streak on record, down more than 20% in that stretch, after its guidance for the current quarter missed expectations and free cash flow plunged 91% year over year. Insider Monkey's hedge fund database shows Microsoft had 282 hedge fund holders as of Q1 2026, down from 312 the quarter before, while Meta had 262 holders, up from 256, indicating hedge funds still favor Microsoft.
