Hofseth BioCare ASA announced the publication of a peer-reviewed clinical study in Biomedicines showing that its salmon protein hydrolysate ProGo improved multiple biological markers linked to healthy ageing and metabolic health in overweight adults, while a protein-matched whey comparator did not. The randomised, double-blind, active-controlled pilot study enrolled 14 overweight adults who received either 12 grams per day of ProGo or an iso-nitrogenous whey protein isolate for 56 days. ProGo produced statistically significant improvements versus whey in haemoglobin, red blood cell count, mean corpuscular haemoglobin, ferritin, and a composite self-assessed hair, nail and skin score, with a 39.1 percent improvement in the composite score. Exploratory analyses favoured ProGo across body composition, inflammation and glucose metabolism, including a 13.3 percent increase in lean body mass, reductions in waist circumference, BMI and percent body fat, and improvements in inflammatory markers and HbA1c. The company noted the findings are preliminary and that larger, longer and placebo-controlled studies are warranted.
