Johnson & JohnsonQ2 earnings beat estimates and full-year outlook raised

US pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson reported second-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $2.90, beating the average analyst estimate of $2.85. The pharmaceuticals division performed well, driving total revenue up about 7% year-on-year to $25.31 billion, above the expected $25.05 billion. Pharmaceutical sales came in at $16.38 billion, exceeding the forecast of $16.1 billion, with psoriasis treatment Tremfya surging 72.5% to $2 billion and blood cancer drug Darzalex also strong. Meanwhile, the medical devices unit posted revenue of $8.93 billion, missing the $8.97 billion estimate, as domestic demand for the Impella heart pump swung from a 14% gain in the prior quarter to a 2% decline. The company raised the midpoint of its full-year revenue outlook to $101.1 billion from $100.8 billion, and lifted the midpoint of its adjusted earnings per share forecast to $11.68 from $11.55.
