Divestiture commitment forces sale of Brazos Valley plant.

LS Power has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Brazos Valley Energy Center, a 606-MW combined-cycle natural gas plant near Houston, from Constellation. The deal, expected to close in the fourth quarter subject to regulatory approval, satisfies a divestiture commitment tied to Constellation's acquisition of Calpine. LS Power CEO Paul Segal said the acquisition reflects a strategy to meet rapidly rising Texas electricity demand by optimizing proven assets. Once pending transactions with Constellation close, LS Power's U.S. operating fleet will total about 14.1 GW of generation capacity.
