Masimo, a Danaher company, announced FDA 510(k) clearance for its Root with LiDCO hemodynamic monitoring solution, including the Masimo LiDCO sensor, enabling continuous monitoring of oxygen delivery. The system combines continuous noninvasive hemoglobin, Masimo SET oxygen saturation, and cardiac output to provide a beat-to-beat view of oxygen being delivered to tissue. Dr. Basil Matta, Chief Medical Officer at Masimo, said the technology gives clinicians a continuous view of oxygen delivery and helps them better understand changes in a patient's oxygen supply as they occur. Clinical studies cited by the company showed preoperative optimization of oxygen delivery reduced mortality from 17% to 3% in one trial, and another trial demonstrated a 75% reduction in 28-day mortality when targeting oxygen delivery greater than 600 mL/min/m².
