Taiwan-based chip design giant MediaTek announced on the 15th a smartphone chip that uses cutting-edge technology from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC. The new product, the Dimensity 9600 Pro, is the company's first mobile processor to adopt TSMC's most advanced 2-nanometer process. It also announced the Dimensity 9600M, manufactured on TSMC's 3-nanometer process and aimed at a broader range of users. The first smartphones carrying both products are expected to go on sale soon. The 9600 Pro features a neural processing unit, an AI-dedicated processor, that allows more complex generative AI applications to run directly on the phone, and its processing performance from when AI begins handling a question to producing an answer is 51 percent faster than the previous generation. The company has until now supplied chips to China's Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo and others.
