Moderna IncModerna's Phase 3 cancer vaccine trial met goals, sending stock up over 100%.
Moderna co-founder Robert Langer has re-entered the billionaires club with a net worth of roughly $1.7 billion after promising cancer vaccine trial results sent the company's stock soaring. The surge followed Wednesday's announcement that Moderna and Merck's mRNA cancer vaccine hit its goals in a Phase 3 trial targeting melanoma, which sent Moderna's stock up more than 100% and pushed the value of Langer's roughly 3% stake past the billion-dollar threshold. This marks the second time Langer has achieved ten-figure wealth, having first entered the club in November 2020 when Moderna shares surged on Phase 3 results for its COVID-19 vaccine, with Forbes peaking his net worth at $4.9 billion in 2021 before it plunged. Langer, 77, had seen his stake fall to about $343 million when Moderna shares hit a low of $29.81 in early January, but he has long urged young workers to prioritize meaningful work over money and job security.
