Moderna IncModerna's cancer vaccine succeeded in a late-stage trial, a major positive development for its pipeline.
Moderna nearly doubled in value on Wednesday after its messenger-RNA-based cancer vaccine, developed with Merck, succeeded in a late-stage trial for melanoma patients. The Phase 3 INTerpath-001 trial met its primary endpoint of recurrence-free survival and a secondary endpoint of distant metastasis-free survival versus Merck's Keytruda alone. William Blair upgraded Moderna to Outperform from Market Perform, and CEO Stephane Bancel said the personalized shot could be approved as early as 2027. Separately, Aurora Cannabis confirmed Curaleaf Holdings has commenced an unsolicited takeover bid for all outstanding shares at implied consideration of $4 per share, comprising 0.3463 Curaleaf shares and $0.75 in cash. Eli Lilly also inked a collaboration with privately held Amplitude Therapeutics to develop trans-amplifying RNA vaccine candidates for infectious diseases, while Twist Bioscience jumped more than 15% after Anthropic selected it as an independent evaluator for AI-designed protein binders.

Merck & Company IncMerck's Keytruda is the comparator in Moderna's successful cancer vaccine trial, but the trial's success may not directly impact Merck's demand; however, the collaboration with Moderna could be seen as positive.
