Nasdaq IncNasdaq invests $100M in Payward/Kraken, expanding its tokenized-equity partnership and venture portfolio.

Nasdaq, the U.S. exchange operator, is investing in Payward, the parent company of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken. The investment amounts to $100 million, or roughly 15.3 billion yen, Bloomberg reported on September 10, citing people familiar with the matter. The investment is being made through Nasdaq's venture investment arm, and it values Payward at $21 billion, or about 3.213 trillion yen. The move expands a partnership the two companies announced in March as they work to build infrastructure supporting tokenized trading of equities. On March 9, the two firms announced a partnership to connect regulated stock markets with blockchain-based markets, developing a framework linking Nasdaq's market infrastructure with Payward's tokenized equity platform, xStocks. At the time of the March announcement, Nasdaq indicated it expected to launch its equity tokenization program in the first half of 2027.
