Novo Nordisk A/SCEO's comments signal confidence in Novo's position despite competition.
Eli Lilly and CompanyCEO suggests market won't be winner-take-all, implying Lilly may not dominate.
Mike Doust, chief executive of Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk, said he does not expect the obesity drug market to become a winner-take-all battle with U.S.-based Eli Lilly. Doust noted that the market will become more segmented as new treatment options such as oral drugs emerge, describing a market where Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Fanta, Dr Pepper, and Red Bull coexist. Novo was early to launch the injectable drug Wegovy in the U.S. market, but has been losing share to Lilly's Zepbound. Analysts forecast the market will reach more than 100 billion dollars annually by 2030, and Novo's oral version of Wegovy currently holds a 90 percent share of the oral GLP-1 drug market.
