Novo Nordisk A/SNovo launches Wegovy pill in Germany, first EU market, expanding availability and potential sales.
Novo Nordisk A/S has launched its Wegovy weight-loss pill in Germany, making it the first country in the European Union where the oral version of the drug is available. Germany is the EU's largest pharmaceutical market, so the launch is an important step for Novo as it works to strengthen its position in the growing obesity-drug market. The pill contains semaglutide, the same active ingredient used in Novo's Wegovy injection and Ozempic. Prices will vary depending on the dosage and are expected to be similar to the injectable version of Wegovy, which currently sells at pharmacy retail prices of around €170 to €280 in Germany. The launch comes as Novo faces growing competition from Eli Lilly. Novo Nordisk A/S said in August that its Wegovy pill had captured around 90% of the oral obesity market, despite competition from Lilly. Lilly's Foundayo has already launched in the UK and is expected to enter other major markets in 2027.
