Novo Nordisk A/SNovo launches oral Wegovy in Germany, expanding availability and potentially capturing more GLP-1 use.
Novo Nordisk has launched its oral Wegovy pill in Germany, the European Union's largest pharmaceutical market, marking the first availability of the pill in the EU. The company's shares rose about 0.5% to $45.545 on Tuesday. Novo expects the pill to be priced similarly to Wegovy injections, which currently cost between 170 and 280 euros in Germany, and believes pills could capture more than one-third of GLP-1 use by 2030. However, the company faces competition from Eli Lilly, which has launched its Foundayo pill in Britain and is targeting approval in over 40 markets. Novo's stock trades 57.88% below its GF Value estimate of $108.13, and the durability of its 90% share of the oral obesity market will be tested by reimbursement, repeat prescriptions, and Lilly's expansion.
